Super Thursday! Selection/ registration/ barbecue

29 September 2009

It's all happening this Thursday down at Ormond Park for the Moonee Valley Cricket Club.
Round 1 starts this weekend for our six two-day teams, plus our women.
Thursday night is selection night for those teams, so we want all our senior players down at training.
The weather is the big wildcard for our turf teams with pitch preparation, so we don't know if the first week will be called off for our First, Second and Third Elevens.
With the business end of the season starting, now's the time for players to get their season registrations in.
It's the same as last season - $250 all-up for a senior player, or they can opt to pay $20 per week played. For students and concession holders, it's $160 for the season or $10 per week played.
But to qualify for the discounted price of paying all-up for the season, you need to pay before the first game.
So Thursday is also our registration drive, and we'll be there to take cash, cheques or eftpos transactions.
We can all join in the fun of selection with a barbecue to be conducted by master chefs Phill King and Peter Fenaughty.
And the rest of our teams?
The Ninths and Tenths (NWCA teams) commence on the weekend of October 10 & 11, while our Sevenths and Eights (MMVCA teams) we expect start on the weekend of October 17 & 18 - although they don't have a fixture out yet so we're not certain.
Juniors start on the October 9-11 weekend.
The Club is still assessing whether we have the numbers for 10 senior teams, so anyone who hasn't been to training yet needs to let me know of their intentions so we can determine whether we have enough players for each squad.
Call me on [contact via the club]. See you Thursday!

Charlie Walker.
President, Moonee Valley Cricket Club.
