Sam makes Imparja team
Moonee Valley cricketer Sam Wellard has been selected in the Victorian Indigenous cricket team to compete in Alice Springs in the national tournament, the Imparja Cup. Cricket Victoria’s media release said that the team was a blend of young raw talent making their debut trip and experienced leaders.
“The team will be relying heavily on the bowling of debutants Sam Wellard (left) and David Gilliam,” the announcement of the team said.“The pair will open the bowling and both players have the firepower to trouble the tournament’s top batsmen.”
The team’s first game will be played on Thursday 23 February against South Australia. In a testing format the team will play again on Friday against the Northern Territory and front up against Queensland on Saturday 25 February. The final is scheduled for Sunday 26 February.
Moonee Valley Cricket Club wishes Sam all the best. Sam, a tearaway opening bowler, played through the junior ranks at the Club and has played five of his 27 senior games in our First Eleven.
